    Volunteer Service.

  • Recipients of the 2007 Currituck County

  • Welcome to the Animal Lovers Assistance League!

We are a non-profit organization of animal lovers that operates the Animal Shelter in Currituck County, North Carolina!

Active in our community, the Animal Lovers Assistance League not only operates the Currituck County Animal Shelter and provides compassionate care, exercise and veterinary care to the wonderful animals available for adoption, we are dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals and providing humane education.
It is a sad fact that many delightful animals arrive at animal shelters across our state, so we promote animal adoption, the spaying or neutering of companion animals as well as teaching our community important aspects of proper, humane animal care. The Currituck County Animal Shelter has numerous animals that would be forever grateful to be adopted to a loving and caring home-our adoption fees make adopting your next pet from our shelter a value too good to pass up.
Stop by the Currituck County Animal Shelter and take home a new best friend!

Help Us Build a New Shelter
    for Currituck County

    Help us build the future!
Help the Animal Lovers Assistance League build a new animal shelter in Currituck County. Our current shelter is simply not able to keep up with the demands of one of the fastest growing counties in America.
    Consider these facts:

  • The current Currituck County Animal Shelter is in the path of the planned expansion of runways and taxiways at the Currituck Regional Airport.

  • The current Animal Shelter operates at or near full capacity almost daily. In spite of the best efforts of the staff and more than 130 volunteer members of the Animal Lovers Assistance League, it is almost impossible to continue to sustain our nearly 90% rate of adopted or rescued shelter animals.

  • Currituck is the third fastest growing county in N. C. In order to provide for the welfare of the animals we must have a new, larger shelter soon.

  • Building costs have risen by $40.00 per sq. ft. within the past year, according to an architectural design firm that specializes in animal shelter design. So the longer we wait, the more we pay.

  • The county is in the process of acquiring nearly ideal centrally located property behind and adjacent to the Crawford Fire Station on Short Cut Road/158.

  • The proposal by the Animal Lovers Assistance League to the Currituck Board of Commissioners will include a Dog Park for free use by the public as well as to promote tourism and economic development by also using it for Dog Agility Competitions by groups in the eastern United States and other similar activities.

  • If you are at least 18 years of age, a resident of Currituck County, and support the construction of a larger and more modern Currituck Animal Shelter as a high priority item for Currituck County, please download and sign our petition. Please ask your friends, relatives and co-workers to support the Animal Lovers Assistance League in this effort.

    Adoptable Pets In the

    Visit our Adoptable Pets-Online!

You never know what treasures you will find in the Currituck County Animal Shelter and the Animal Lovers Assistance League would be happy to adopt a new pet to you!

Each year, the Animal Lovers Assistance League has hundreds of animals that need a good home and we depend on responsible pet owners to adopt a new pet from our shelter.

It's a sad fact that when you allow your pets to breed more kittens or puppies, buy a pet from a "backyard" animal breeder or spend hundreds of dollars on a purebred pet, you might be missing a great pet from our shelter that will cost you a whole lot less-and love you just as much!

We think that when you make a dollar to dollar comparison, you just won't find a better value than you will if you adopt a pet from your local animal shelter.

Please, if you are considering a new pet for your home, stop by our shelter and give one of our pets a chance!

For a complete list of the animals we have in our shelter as well as our adoption requirements and adoption fees, please visit our Pet Adoption section-we might just have your next pet!
